Mt.Everest, Top of the World. Is it's height really shrinking?



Mt. Everest is the highest peak in the world with the height of 8848m from the Sea Level. Locally Mt. Everest is well known for “Sagarmatha” whereas it is popular around the globe as the “Top Of The World.”

          Mt. Everest is the highest peak in the world with an elevation of 29,035 feet (8848m). It lies at 27°59′ N 86°56′ E on the border between Nepal and Tibet.

Mount Everest is named as “Sagarmatha” locally which literally means “Peak of Heaven”.  It was not identified as the highest point on Earth before 1852, when Indian governmental survey published that fact. It was named as Mount Everest on behalf of Sir George Everest who was the British Surveyor General of India

 Climbing Mt.Everest

               Climbing Mount Everest is not an easy thing to do but still, it attracts lots of mountaineers and tourist from around the glove. Despite difficulties, more than 5000 people have climbed Mount Everest and more than 250 have died trying. Further, about 900 ascents were already recorded.

               The southeast ridge from Nepal is the most commonly taken route by climbers. It was the route used by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and became the first men to step foot on the top of the world.  There is a base camp on the Khumbu Glacier at the height of 17,600 feet.

              Talking about the cost to climb Mt.Everest, it is substantial. All have to take a permit from the government of Nepal which may cost between $10,000 to $25000 per each. Furthermore, adding essentials like guides and helicopter will cost over $65000.

Mt.Everest is also regarded as one of several “hidden Valleys ” of refuge designated by Buddhist Saint, especially southern part. There is a famous Rongbuk Monastery believed as  “sacred threshold to Mount Everest” by the Sherpas living on the Khumbu region of Nepal.

Mt.Everest is not only for its natural beauty and adventure but also a habitat for many endangered species like the snow leopard, red panda, Himalayan black bear, musk deer, and Himalayan wolves.
